If you are sailing from a UK port 200lbs (90kgs) of luggage is allowed. On fly-cruises, however, your allowance will be subject to the conditions imposed by the air carrier and will vary from airline to airline. On scheduled air services, the free baggage allowance in economy class is normally 20kgs. On Fred. Olsen operated charter flights, however, the baggage allowance is more generous at 25kgs for economy and 30kg for Premium seats, although this is subject to change at the start of each fly-cruise season (the weight limit for each individual piece of hold luggage is 23kgs). Please note excess baggage charges apply. For safety reasons, when using one of our advertised coach services each piece of luggage must weigh less than 20kgs. Please check when booking and on receipt of your holiday tickets. REGIONAL FLIGHT CONNECTIONS FOR UK DEPARTURESShould your selected cruise not depart from a port near you, regional flights from around the UK may be booked. Prices start at £135pp, flight only, or from £195pp to include transfers to/from the ship. Flights are subject to availability and conditions apply. We regret this option is not available in conjuction with 'Latesaver' or selected promotional fares. Please ask for details.PROxIMITy OF DESTINATIONSIn all our ports of call, we aim to dock the ship as closely as we can to the destination. Often we will be walking distance or a short bus ride from the centre. A shuttle bus may sometimes be provided, either by Fred. Olsen or the local port authority (a nominal fee usually applies). It is sometimes the case that the port is further away. Where this arises, it may be necessary to book a tour to visit the main destination (although it may also be possible to travel there by taxi or public transport). This is shown as "for tours to" All you need to know in preparation for your cruise. Our cruise Gazetteer gives you more information to bring your holiday to life.within the cruise itinerary (for example, "Civitavecchia [for tours to Rome])". We aim to keep these instances to a minimum.FOREIGN CURRENCy SERVICEFred. 'Floating Formals' is a suit hire service, which you can pre-book by telephone from your home. When you arrive on board, your tuxedo will be pressed and waiting for you in your cabin. When the cruise is over all you need to do is leave the garment(s) with reception. It's that simple!Hire rates start from £67 for cruises of 14 days or less. Suit hire is available for longer cruises on request. The service is available on cruises departing from Dover, Portsmouth or Southampton and orders can be placed up to 72 hours before your sailing date. Please call 'Floating Formals' on 020 8952 1497 for full details and bookings. Arrangements and prices are correct at the time of going to print, and may be subject to change.CLOTHINGDaytime wear is casual: comfortable shoes are essential for going ashore, sightseeing and walking on deck, and as the sun begins to set, a lightweight jacket or coat is recommended too. During the day, the restaurants request you adhere to an appropriate dress code e.g. no swimwear. When it comes to evening, dressing for dinner is traditional. During your cruise there will be some casual as well as themed evenings, such as 'Tropical Evening' or 'British Night'. Generally speaking, the style is informal, with gentlemen wearing jacket/or shirt and tie and ladies smartly dressed. On 'Formal' evenings, gentlemen will prefer to wear 'black tie' with ladies elegantly dressed in cocktail or evening dress. As a guideline there are usually four formal nights on a two-week cruise. In the Caribbean a slightly more relaxed approach is taken. Details will be supplied with your travel documents.Gazetteer www.fredolsencruises.com 165WELL-BEING AT SEAHealth & SafetyAlthough we can make suggestions for some of our cruises, health regulations are ever changing. We recommend you must check with your GP at least 12 weeks prior to departure for up to date information, or telephone MASTA (Medical Advisory Service for Travellers Abroad) on 0906 822 4100 for health advice. In addition, general travel advice is available from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office at www.fco.gov.uk/travel. In some countries general standards of hygiene, care and safety may differ from those in the UK. So when visiting ashore common sense is the watchword, especially when choosing drinks or sampling the local cuisine.Medical FacilitiesFor your peace of mind all our ships have a medical centre offering primary and emergency care, with a doctor and/or nurse on call at all times. The medical centres operate outside of British and European health services and charges are levied for consultations, prescriptions and cabin visits. A scale of charges is displayed in each medical centre and charges incurred will be billed to your on board account. We would ask that any guest taking medication bring adequate supplies to last the duration of the cruise. Please ensure you pack medication in your hand luggage if required en route to the vessel. All ships have two qualified nurses on board.VaccinationsDepending on the ports of call of your chosen cruise, you may require vaccination against Yellow Fever. This will be advised to you at the time of booking.Use Of Wheelchairs Passengers relying on wheelchairs for mobility - at any time during the cruise - are welcome on board our ships but you must advise us at the time of booking. For your own convenience, comfort and safety you must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion. Motorised wheelchairs/scooters will only be accepted on Braemar when occupying a designated wheelchair-accessible cabin. On health and safety grounds chairs weighing in excess of 25kg that do not dismantle cannot be carried ashore at any ports of call other than the start/end point of the cruise. In accordance with safety requirements we regret that the number of passengers using wheelchairs on board is restricted to 4 on Braemar, 6 on Black Watch and Boudicca and 12 on Balmoral. However, subject to further quotas, additional wheelchairs/scooters can be stored for use ashore only. Only those cabins indicated as adapted for wheelchair use have private facilities for wheelchair users. With the exception of some UK ports where an overhead walkway may be available, wheelchair reliant passengers can be assisted on to the vessel by way of hydraulic 'stair walkers' operated by fully trained ship board personnel. Standard size wheelchairs can be accommodated by this device (subject to gangway compatibility), but passengers using specialised wheelchairs will need to first transfer to one of the vessel's standard wheelchairs before lifting (max combined weight 160kg). Regrettably, unless able to board a vehicle unassisted, it will not be possible for wheelchair users to participate in the organised Shore Tours programme. However, our Shore Tours department may be able to arrange private tours with the use of adapted vehicles. When passengers on fly-cruise transfers require a special adapted vehicle, then the extra costs incurred will be payable by the passenger.SecurityWe know that many of you would like friends and family to join you on board prior to sailing but, for security reasons, no visitors are allowed beyond check-in or Security either in the UK or abroad. To ensure the comfort and safety of all guests, we reserve the right to disembark anyone failing to comply with our on-board policies.Tender ServicesSome ports will require passengers to go ashore by tender, with access down the steps of a gangway. There are 25 steps from the ship to the tender on all our vessels (except Braemar where there is a maximum of 7). Please ask about your particular cruise at the time of booking. On health and safety grounds wheelchair bound passengers or those requiring more than minimal assistance to board/ alight a tender will be prevented from going ashore on these occasions. Smoking On boardSmoking is no longer permitted in any inside deck area. Smoking is however permitted on cabin balconies and on designated open deck locations.Single TravellersOur single guests need never be alone on board as we have the reputation of operating the friendliest cruise ships afloat. Our staff will be waiting to greet you from the moment you arrive and special activities will be arranged throughout the cruise to give you the opportunity to meet with fellow single travellers if you wish. Hosts will be on hand on all cruises to make sure our single guests never go too long without a dance partner in the evenings.Children On boardChildren are welcome on board and families often choose to travel with several generations enjoying the cruise together, particularly during the school holidays.
