CLOTHING Daytime wear is casual: comfortable shoes are essential for going ashore, sightseeing and walking on deck, and as the sun begins to set, a lightweight jacket or coat is recommended too. During the day, the restaurants request you adhere to an appropriate dress code e. g. no swimwear. When it comes to evening, dressing for dinner is traditional. During your cruise there will be some casual as well as themed evenings, such as ' Tropical Evening' or ' British Night'. Generally speaking, the style is informal, with gentlemen wearing jacket/ or shirt and tie and ladies smartly dressed. On ' Formal' evenings, gentlemen will prefer to wear ' black tie' with ladies elegantly dressed in cocktail or evening dress. As a guideline there are usually four formal nights on a two- week cruise. In the Caribbean a slightly more relaxed approach is taken. Details will be supplied with your travel documents. WELL- BEING AT SEA Health & Safety Although we can make suggestions for some of our cruises, health regulations are ever changing. We recommend you must check with your GP at least 12 weeks prior to departure for up to date information, or telephone MASTA ( Medical Advisory Service for Travellers Abroad) on 0906 822 4100 for health advice. In addition, general travel advice is available from the Foreign & Commonwealth Offi ce at www. fco. gov. uk/ travel. In some countries general standards of hygiene, care and safety may diff er from those in the UK. So when visiting ashore common sense is the watchword, especially when choosing drinks or sampling the local cuisine. Medical Facilities For your peace of mind, our ships have a medical centre with a doctor and nurse in permanent attendance off ering primary care. The medical centres operate outside of British and European health services and charges are levied for consultations, prescriptions and cabin visits. A scale of charges is displayed in each medical centre and charges incurred will be billed to your on board account. We would ask that any guest taking medication bring adequate supplies to last the duration of the cruise. Please ensure you pack medication in your hand luggage if required en route to the vessel. All ships have two qualifi ed nurses on board. Vaccinations Depending on the ports of call of your chosen cruise, you may require vaccination against Yellow Fever. This will be advised to you at the time of booking. Use Of Wheelchairs Passengers relying on wheelchairs for mobility - at any time during the cruise - are welcome on board our ships but you must advise us at the time of booking. For your own convenience, comfort and safety you must be accompanied by an able- bodied companion. Motorised wheelchairs/ scooters will only be accepted on Braemar when occupying a designated wheelchair- accessible cabin. On health and safety grounds chairs weighing in excess of 25kg that do not dismantle cannot be carried ashore at any ports of call other than the start/ end point of the cruise. In accordance with safety requirements we regret that the number of passengers using wheelchairs on board is restricted to 4 on Braemar, 6 on Black Watch and Boudicca and 12 on Balmoral. However, subject to further quotas, additional wheelchairs/ scooters can be stored for use ashore only. Only those cabins indicated as adapted for wheelchair use have private facilities for wheelchair users. With the exception of Dover where an overhead walkway is available, wheelchair reliant passengers can be assisted on to the vessel by way of hydraulic ' stair walkers' operated by fully trained ship board personnel. Standard size wheelchairs can be accommodated by this device ( subject to gangway compatibility), but passengers using specialised wheelchairs will need to fi rst transfer to one of the vessel's standard wheelchairs before lifting ( max combined weight 160kg). Regrettably, unless able to board a vehicle unassisted, it will not be possible for wheelchair users to participate in the organised Shore Tours programme. However, our Shore Tours department may be able to arrange private tours with the use of adapted vehicles. When passengers on fl y- cruise transfers require a special adapted vehicle, then the extra costs incurred will be payable by the passenger. Security We know that many of you would like friends and family to join you on board prior to sailing but, for security reasons, no visitors are allowed beyond check- in or Security either in the UK or abroad. Tender Services Some ports will require passengers to go ashore by tender, with access down the steps of a gangway. Please ask about your particular cruise at the time of booking. On health and safety grounds wheelchair bound passengers or those requiring more than minimal assistance to board/ alight a tender will be prevented from going ashore on these occasions. Smoking On board Smoking is no longer permitted in any inside deck area. Smoking is however permitted on cabin balconies and on designated open deck locations. Single Travellers Our single guests need never be alone on board as we have the reputation of operating the friendliest cruise ships afl oat. Our staff will be waiting to greet you from the moment you arrive and special activities will be arranged throughout the cruise to give you the opportunity to meet with fellow single travellers if you wish. Hosts will be on hand on all cruises to make sure our single guests never go too long without a dance partner in the evenings. Children On board Children are welcome on board and families often choose to travel with several generations enjoying the cruise together, particularly during the school holidays. However, it should be noted that our ships do not have extensive features for children or dedicated staff to assist in their care. Special Occasions If you are celebrating a special anniversary or birthday whilst on board we would like to help you celebrate to make the occasion even more memorable. Please let us know if you are celebrating your Silver, Pearl, Ruby, Golden, Emerald or Diamond anniversary either six months before, during, or after your cruise and we will provide a fantastic package with our compliments ( a copy of your wedding certifi cate will be required in advance of sailing). Similarly a honeymoon on board is a unique time and we will mark the occasion in style. You will fi nd a temperature control gauge in your cabin, which will allow you to adjust the air temperature to your comfort. The following credit cards are accepted: American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa. We also accept Visa debit cards but regret we are unable to accept Solo, Electron, travel agent debit cards or travellers cheque cards. Payments by credit card incur a 2% surcharge. No surcharge is applied to payment by debit card. Gratuities We're confi dent that you'll feel like rewarding staff on board for their service - although of course tipping is entirely a matter for your own personal discretion, as is the amount you may wish to give as your way of saying ' thank you'. By way of a helpful guideline - £ 2.00 per passenger per day for your cabin stewardess and the same amount for your restaurant waiter would take care of your tips. For your convenience there is an option of adding gratuities to your on board account, which saves you the need to use cash at the end of your cruise. SHIP SERVICES Laundry Services An excellent laundry and cleaning service is available on board all of our ships, along with an ironing room for passengers' use.
